Preemie Girl Goes To School

If only I could hold it off a little bit longer but Preemie girl is turning 4 in July and yes, I know...she needs to start school now. So it's off to summer classes for our little girl, in preparation for the regular school year this June. I enrolled her in our local parochial pre-school which has been putting out graduates who easily get accepted into the first grade of the big schools.

I am hoping that if she does well, she can get accelerated to Prep school by the time she is 5 years old since the government's primary and secondary levels will now be 12 years all in all (K12), as compared to the old curriculum which took only 10 years. That means Preemie girl will graduate from high school at 17 years of age (I was only 15 when I graduated from high school) and if she takes up medicine, that will be another 10 years!.

It's been 2 days now and so far, so good. She seems to be enjoying herself in the 2 hours that she is in class and made friends with another out-going little girl. She is surprisingly very well behaved and even eats her snacks without prompting! Awwww...my Preemie girl is growing up...sniff.

  1. wow, nice to know that Preemie is enjoying school. I know how it feels to have a young kiddo start studying (although I am not a biological mom yet). I have a niece who lives with me and calls me mommy and she started Kinder in Public School at 3 years old! Now since I am transferring her to a private school where the standard is higher, she is taking summer classes too! Everyday, she tells me she got a perfect score hahaha..

  6. It is good to know that your kiddo enjoyed her first two days in class unlike some kids who cry everytime their mother disappear from their sight.

  10. My niece just had her first pre-school experienced last year and she graduated her K-1 and she got a medal...and some ribbons..I've never experienced being at the pre-school but I remember so well what I had experienced when I enrolled in grade 1. All I need that time was a mother who can assist me to get through the class kasi nahirapan talaga ako. Though my mother is there, pero I am proud to say that I learned a lot through all my efforts and now taking my MS with all my efforts also...

  11. I believe that if you nurture a child with education, you are molding her future. I'm still new here at Laguna but I am on the lookout for preschools and daycare center for my nieces. As much as we can, let's help them in their studies too. Bonding and learning in one.

  12. I can feel the emotion of you as a parent as you see your child growing fast. Yes, Preemie is now a school kid exposed to a bigger society. I hope she will be that kid who will grow old valuing education that much and as you said, she is enjoying school, so I believe that is a good sign :)

  14. I remember sending off my kid for his summer pre-school. Nakakatuwa especially when she starts learning new things. Don't worry, things will only get better as she moves up. Masakit lang talaga sa ulo kapag nag-start mo na syang turuan ng mga lessons nya.

  19. Preemie, what an adorable name for a young girl :) I also have a friend who's a mom who just enrolled her daughter this summer in preparation to the real-world schooling on June. Her daughter also enjoyed her first day and now, she couldn't stop asking for pencil and paper even after school. UIt's nice to see kids have fun learning :)

  20. It's normal for kids to enjoy school since they love to play and they will have lots of kiddos around them to play with.

  21. Don't worry much. She'll be fine in school. She should enjoy her first year in the school so she will look forward of getting back into school. Just like my daughter did.

  23. Time to accelerate the education process so to avoid k-12 before it gets 12 years for education.

  24. very nice for her start in schooling at least she never experience some pressure going in school

  25. At least, she's enjoying school. It would be a lot more difficult now due to k-12.

  27. mother tongue din ba tinuturo dyan?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. wala, english is their emphasis but they try to incorporate mother tongue in the Prep (Kinder 2) classes because we have been getting feedbacks from mothers whose kids are now in grade 1 that nahihirapan daw yung mga anak nila. What is weird is that the mother tongue being taught is not quite the same as our everyday ilonggo language. For example eleven is napulo kag isa and twenty is duha ka napulo...who in heavens name say that here?

  30. I know what you mean! Our Littlest turned 4 last year in November and a few days later she begun what is the equivalent of kindergarden here in the Netherlands.

We lived in Germany, and the school system there is different from the Netherlands and both these countries have complete different system compared to the Philippines. As I read it the system I remembered is also different from what I remember!

But what remains the same is that school is the second home for our children, and it should be a memorable period in their lives if we give them the right amount of support.

It is obvious from reading this post, that Preemie Girl will get all the support she needs from you!

  35. KIDS of today are so smart that they
have to attend school at an earlier
time and sometimes, at an earlier age
like my son, who just turned 3 last June
    and he's now in pre-nursery.

Good luck to your little preemie girl!
