Saigon Cafe - Vietnam Comes To Bacolod

My cousin works in Saigon and Hanoi, and he has entertained us with stories about his great food experience there.  Well, I have always been curious about Vietnam and was very surprised to learn that there is a relatively new Vietnamese restaurant in town that my blogger and non-blogger friends are raving about.  Three weeks ago, I was invited to join some of them for food tasting in the Saigon Cafe-Garden Resto, unfortunately because of myriad reasons (foremost of which was the time and distance), I have been unable to go.  However, my blogger friends Rick Gotera of Adventures of Hijo A de Pongol who made the first two invitations, Sigrid Lo of Mama Cooks and Glady Reyes of Experience Negros wrote great reviews of the place and they must have love it because in a span of two weeks, they all went back a few more times bringing with them their families.  I feel bad not coming along and so, to atone for this, I am posting some pictures taken from their facebook site, as well as that of my friends. For more information, please visit the links above.

The place is located at Barangay Marapara and is actually part of a home, so don't expect any fancy place...but then that is part of the fun and adventure.  The good news for those who prefer more formal settings, is that they will be opening a full service restaurant sometime in May, in a very accessible place near the Riverside Medical Center and the Colegio de San Agustin in North Drive.  Something that I really look forward to since I live in Silay and don't like travelling alone at night.  And so when they do open, my family and I will definitely have lunch or early dinner there. I would certainly like to experience the gustatory delights that my friends are talking about and write about it too :)

  1. Vietnamese cuisine is not a distinctive Asian food.
I would hope for the same recognition to our Filipino dish soon.

  3. I believe local dishes like adobo, chicharon bulaklak, crispy pata...etc have been given due recognition as "Filipino"...but as Asian, am not too sure.

  4. Are they opening a branch in Manila? Anyhow, I would agree with your friends, as Vietnamese food is truly sumptuous. I was in Ho Chi Minh last year, and my beau and I completely fell in love with their cuisines. Vietnamese food is definitely a different kind of experience. :)
