Greenwich Pizza Blow Out - Something Old, Something New

Who would have thought that what began as an over-the-counter pizza store in Greenhills Commercial Center in 1971 would become this big?  As a student  at the University of Santo Tomas in the mid-70's,  I was very happy to see that there was a Greenwich branch in EspaƱa right near the overpass!  If I remember correctly, it was  besides the St. Paul's Bookstore. I would go there at least once a week to give myself a pizza or taco treat (yes, they used to sell tacos).  This love affair ended in 1980 when I came home to the province and it was not till the '90's when they opened a small branch in Bacolod that I got to eat my favorite pizza regularly again.  As different malls started to sprout in the city, the store also established branches there.  In 1994, Greenwich was bought by Jollibee Food Corporation and from then on, it continued to grow bigger and better.  Aside from the varied pizza offerings, their menu began to include pasta, rice and chicken meals, among others.

It must be obvious by now that I am a big fan, so that when we were invited to be part of the Greenwich Pizza Blow Out Tour, I immediately said yes.  This was held at the Robinson's Place branch last Friday, September 28, 2012.  This event was done to promote their newest product–the Crispy Glazed Chicken.   For someone who was not very adventurous when it comes to food, this dish was surprisingly very good. I love that the chicken skin remained crispy in spite of the fact that it was glazed with a mildly sweet and spicy honey syrup while the meat was juicy, tender and tasty.  The serving size was just right for me, although next time I will ask for my preferred chicken part (heheh).  For big eaters (like my son, for example), one piece will definitely not be enough.  And best of all, the meal is very affordable at P79.00.

Of course, eating in Greenwich is not complete without my old favorite, their Greenwich Special Overload, which for me is the best pizza ever.  Another revelation was their cheese flavored french fries with pizza sauce dip. They were fried to perfection, not soggy nor dry.

  8. Greenwich foods are great. But sometimes, it takes 30 minutes or so for them to cook what we order (at least at our place).
