He Ate Like A Viking!

On my son's (aka Big Brother) 25th birthday...

He ate like a Viking!

A few days before that, I was lucky to be invited together with some blogger friends on the second opening day of Vikings SM City Bacolod and simply put...it did not disappoint. The buffet spread is a gastronomic delight, worth every penny and more!   I thought to myself, my son would love it here!  There was something for everybody, young and old and so, I immediately made reservations for our family to celebrate his 25th birthday here.

The Birthday
November 3 came, and off we went early.  We were told to be there between 11:30 - 12:30, otherwise we lose our reservation.  We were brought to Table 212 which was on the right side of the entrance and near all the food.  When I made the reservation, I asked for an accessible table for my mom who would be using a walker/wheelchair. As long as you inform them beforehand, Vikings will take note of your requests to accommodate persons with disabilities and special needs. They even provide an in-house wheelchair, if asked for.  As soon as we settled down, my son headed for the carving station, where the lines were long...not once, not twice, not thrice but several times!  I think I stopped counting after 5.  To be fair, that's all he ate.  He told me that this is his happiest birthday ever!  HAHAHAHA!  Is he 5 or 25?  I on the other hand, went straight to the Japanese and seafood station.  This is ironic because I used to be allergic to all kinds of seafood until my teen years and then in my early adult years, my allergies lessened and disappeared before my 30's. The way I love to eat shrimps. crabs, scallops, et al seems to me like I am making up for lost time.  My 81 year old mom who in spite of some recent loss of appetite enjoyed herself and even asked me when are we coming back. Talk about good food and ambience! She and my brother who is a PWD had their fill of their favorites (seafood, pasta, Japanese, etc...) and a little of everything else.   As for my little girl, a picky eater who went straight for the ice cream and candy bar, surprisingly also ate 2 slices of pizza and three shrimp tempura.   Needless to say, we all went home happy and sated :)

Gourmet Food, Generous Discounts
What's so great about Vikings is not just their gourmet food, but also their generous discounts.  Aside from the usual senior citizen and PWD discounts, they give 50% discount all year round to people 75 years old and above, and free of charge for those celebrating a birthday on the day they come to Vikings, as long as they bring one full paying companion.  During your birthday month, you can still eat for free anytime, as long as you are with 4 full paying companions.  And don't forget the children, as they too get big discounts depending on height.  My under 4 feet tall daughter (who nibbled on her food, but feasted on ice cream and cake) was charged only P188.00.  If I were made to choose an upmarket restaurant in Bacolod to go to, Vikings would win hands down.  It has everything that everyone likes to eat at a very affordable price, at one sitting!

Cozy and Classy Atmosphere

Vikings SM City Bacolod's decor and theme is Manhattan Nights, chosen perhaps because of the perception that Bacolod is a stylish city and fast becoming cosmopolitan. The well-thought-of lay out of the restaurant makes it easy to navigate through the stations without crowding and bumping to each other. Seats are comfortable and the restaurant crew are alert and helpful to our needs. To say that the restaurant is classy is an understatement. The decor oozes with sophistication which I am sure appealed to the senses of Bacolodnons and Negrenses, alike. I especially love the cozy lighting and the elegant flooring which reminded me of old heritage buildings The wall decors were also eye catching with the blue violet rhinoceros heads. There are 3 function rooms that can seat 16 people for meetings and events.  The use of these rooms is free, all we have to do is to make reservations for it and pay per head :)

What else can I say except, madamo nga salamat Vikings for choosing Bacolod as your first restaurant in the Visayas.  You are giving us the experience of fine dining at an affordable cost,  as well us  teaching us the art of good eating.
